Scheduling & RegistrationYour surgeon will schedule your procedure with Lattimore Community Surgicenter (LCS). Once your surgery date has been scheduled, we offer the following guidelines to make your experience at LCS as efficient as possible. If your procedure requires anesthesia, your surgeon may provide you with a pre-registration packet. If you do not receive this from the surgeon's office, and your surgery is scheduled more than 10 days in advance, you can expect to receive one in the mail from us. However, if your procedure is scheduled within 10 days of your visit, you can expect to receive a phone call from our pre-op nurse to review your health history over the phone. You can also download the documents below. If you do receive a pre-registration packet, please complete it as soon as possible (within 5 days) and either mail or fax it back to the Surgicenter. The pre-op nurse will review it and contact you if she has any questions, or if any pre-operative testing is required. Otherwise, you will not hear from us until we call you the day before your surgery to give you your arrival time. If you have completed an Advance Directive, or a Healthcare Proxy, please bring a copy with you on the day of your surgery.
FinancesOur Billing Department will investigate and evaluate your insurance coverage. Typically, you will be contacted in advance if we find your insurance requires a co-payment, or if it is determined that your insurance will not cover your procedure. We will work with your surgeon's office to be sure any required pre-certifications are in place, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to verify that your insurance covers your procedure, and that any necessary authorizations are in place prior to surgery. Please be sure to bring your insurance card(s) with you on the day of your surgery, along with any co-payment required by your insurance carrier. LCS accepts cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. LCS participates with most major insurance carriers, including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Blue Choice, Preferred Care and Aetna. As a courtesy to our patients, we will submit your claim to your insurance regardless of our participation status with the carrier. The bill from the Surgicenter is only for the costs incurred for the use of the facility, known as the "facility fee". This fee does not include the costs of any pre-admission testing, pathology, special equipment or supplies. The surgeon and anesthesiologist charges are also not included in this fee. You may therefore receive separate bills for these services.
PrivacyWe are committed to respecting you and your privacy. We will not share your information, except as required by law, without your permission. Should you request your information be released to someone other than yourself, the document below must be completed and returned to us. In addition, we are also providing you a copy of the Notice of Privacy Practices, also known as the HIPAA law.
Patient Rights and ResponsibilitiesPlease review the following documents concerning your rights and responsibilities as a patient at the Lattimore Community Surgicenter.
Anesthesia CareIf your surgery requires the services of an anesthesiologist, a member of the Department of Anesthesiology at UR/Strong Memorial Hospital will provide this care. Your anesthesiologist will participate in planning, directing and performing your anesthesia. He/She will also review your medical history and lab tests on the day of surgery. A nurse anesthetist or an anesthesia resident will frequently assist with your anesthesiologist. It is important that you report any changes that may have occurred since your preadmission testing to your anesthesiologist. Typically, you will be instructed not to eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your surgery. A responsible adult must drive you home after surgery. You will not be discharged unless you are accompanied by someone to insure your safety.
Procedures not requiring an AnesthesiologistIf you are having an endoscopy, gastroscopy, or colonoscopy, you will not be receiving anesthesia. Instead, you will be sedated by your physician. Some other procedures are performed under local anesthesia, which is administered by your physician. Your physician will notify you in advance if your procedure is to be performed under a local anesthetic. A responsible adult should also accompany you to the Surgicenter and drive you home, as you may be groggy or uncomfortable following your procedure.
The Day Before SurgeryYou can expect a call from LCS between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM to give you your arrival time. If your surgery is scheduled for a Monday, we will call you the previous Friday. Your arrival time can be up to two hours earlier than your surgery time to allow time to prepare you for surgery. Inform your surgeon and a Lattimore Representative of any changes in your medical condition, or if you have a cold, cough or fever. Take your regularly scheduled medications, with a sip of water, unless instructed otherwise. Unless otherwise instructed, DO NOT eat or drink ANYTHING, including water, after midnight. Remember to bring a responsible adult with you who can drive you home after your surgery. RELAX. Your surgeon and the highly experienced clinical staff at LCS will do their utmost to help insure a smooth and convenient visit.
The Day of SurgeryPlease arrive at the Surgicenter at your assigned arrival time. Check in with our receptionist. At this time you will be asked to verify your demographic information. We will scan your insurance card(s) and process your registration paperwork with you. A registered nurse will come to the waiting room to escort you to the pre-op area when they are ready to prep you for surgery. As time allows, your family member or friend may visit with you until it is time for you to go to the operating room. We do our very best to keep to our schedule. However, there are times that cases run behind. We will do our best to keep you informed of any delays, and appreciate your patience. Your family/friends will wait in our waiting room. Complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available, as is a local use telephone and a television.
Recovery CareAfter your surgery, you will be taken either to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, or to the Recovery Lounge. A recovery lounge nurse will invite your family member or friend to join you in the Recovery Lounge. The length of time you spend recovering from your procedure will usually be between one to two hours in duration. Your discharge instructions will be reviewed with both you, and your family member or friend. It is important that you follow your discharge instructions. A copy will be sent home with you. You will also be given a Satisfaction Survey. We hope that you will take the time to complete this. We are always interested in feedback from our patients, whether it be positive or negative. Click here to complete the survey. If your procedure required an anesthesiologist, a recovery room nurse will call you the day after your procedure to check on the progress of your recovery. |
